Brazilian Ambassador to the UAE Visits Dubai Industrial City’s Anorka Food Industries

Dubai-UAE: 29 November, 2020 – Brazil’s Ambassador to the UAE, Fernando Luis Lemos Igreja, has visited the Anorka Food Industries factory in Dubai Industrial City as the importance of regional food security gathers national momentum.

He was joined on the tour by Belal Mohamad AL Hamwi, CEO of Anorka Food Industries and Saud Abu Al-Shawareb, Managing Director of Dubai Industrial City, one of the region’s largest business communities for light and medium manufacturing players.

Anorka Food Industries imports raw coffee beans from Brazil that it roasts and then produce and packages a variety of different products including ground coffee and ready-to-drink iced coffee that is exported to globally. Some of the major importers of Anorka Food Industries’ made-in-UAE coffee include Africa, Australia, Europe and North America. It is also exported across the Middle East and its products remain popular with UAE consumers.

The factory has been operational since 2016 and currently employs more than 75 people in Dubai Industrial City – which is home to more than 200 factories.

Commenting on the visit, Saud Abu Al Shawareb, Managing Director of Dubai Industrial City: “Food security has emerged as a national priority for the UAE and for good reason: more than 90% of the food and drink consumed in the GCC is imported, but we can address traditional agricultural constraints linked to soil quality, water scarcity and temperature through innovative techniques such as vertical farming and hydroponics. We were delighted to welcome Ambassador Igreja to Dubai Industrial City to witness first-hand how our business partner Anorka Food Industries is working with Brazil’s globally recognised agribusiness sector to strengthen bilateral relations and boost innovation-driven food security in the UAE.”

Belal Mohamad AL Hamwi, CEO of Anorka Food Industries, added: I would express my regards to Mr Fernando Igreja, the Ambassador of Brazil to the UAE, for the visit to our factory. Our research and development department continues to explore new avenues and we are willing to work with the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce in a collaborative manger to deal with new farms in Brazil. We would also like to highlight the effort deployed by Dubai Industrial City to provide the infrastructure and investment environment that is attractive and enhances the development of local industries.”

Dubai Industrial City is strategically aligned to several of the UAE government’s economic, environmental and food-related initiatives, such as the Dubai Industrial Strategy 2030, the UAE Energy Strategy 2050 and the National Food Security Strategy 2051. The business community is a strategic driver of the Dubai Industrial Strategy 2030 with a focus on two priority subsectors: food and beverages and machinery and equipment.
